Lemon has been used for generations for its culinary, nutritional and health benefits. Besides it’s cleansing properties, lemon can be used as part of your natural beauty regimen.
There are countless ways you can make homemade lemon beauty products. . are 4 of them.
1. Lip Exfoliator.
Cracked or dry lips are inevitable especially because of exposure to harsh weather conditions. Poor quality lipsticks could also be the reason why your lips are cracked all the time.
Recipe: Add half a teaspoon of lemon juice, a teaspoon of sugar and a few drops of coconut in a small bowl. Apply this mixture to your lips and let it sit for five minutes. Then scrub gently across your lips in a side to side motion. Rinse using warm water and apply some lip balm or Vaseline.
2. Body Scrub.
Many Kenyan women have never used a body scrub before. We ceremoniously scrub our faces and feet but forget the rest of the body. The skin is constantly aging and exfoliation is a good way to reduce early aging and to keep your skin smooth.
Recipe: Mix half a cup of coffee and 3 spoons of olive oil in a bowl. Add the juice of half a lemon and lemon zest (using a grater eases the process). Keep mixing till the consistency is even. Use this all over your body.
Quick Tip: Use this scrub in your bathroom because it tends to be very messy.
3. Face Brightener.
If you struggle with acne spots, you know how hard it is to get an affordable product that actually works. Lemon juice could be the best toner you never had. Lemon juice has a low PH making it ideal for basic skin brightening.
How to use lemon as a toner: Rub some lemon juice all over your face and leave it on for about 10 minutes. Remember to stay indoors for about an hour after application because it makes your skin sensitive to UV rays.
Quick tip: Always wear sunscreen after using lemon toners.
4. Elbow, knee & under-Arm brightener.
Extremely dark knees and under arms in comparison the color of the rest of your body could be very unattractive. Women who like to wear short skirts and dresses know that the key to beautiful legs is an even skin tone. Brightening your knees is a fantastic way to begin your journey to beautiful legs.
Recipe: Cut a lemon in half, seed it and juice it, leaving the pulp intact. Add some baking powder into both halves and dip your elbows or knees in them for 20 minutes. Rinse off and enjoy your new soft and lightened elbows and knees. For the underarm, use lemon juice every evening before going to bed.
