The Bunyadi, which opens this summer, is set to be London’s first nude restaurant, where diners will be encouraged to disrobe and “experience true liberation” while having their menu.
The restaurant reportedly has a waiting list of more than 4,000 already, and will be open for three months from June 2016. The Bunyadi – a Hindi term meaning ‘base’ or ‘natural’ – will have a naked and non-naked section, along with a changing room to cater for the naked.
On arrival, customers will be escorted to a changing room, asked to place their clothes and belongings in lockers and given a light gown, and then left to decide whether to remove the final item of clothing at the table.
In an attempt to create a semblance of privacy, tables will be partly obscured by bamboo screens. Large napkins will presumably be provided to prevent unfortunate burns.
Naked serving staff will wait on tables, offering a menu which will include grilled meats as well as vegan options, all cooked on a wood fire and served on handmade clay crockery.
It is not yet specific as to the location of the nude restaurant which has so far not been disclosed, it is however in central London and has a capacity of forty-two. Dinner will cost around £60 per person.
Bunyadi is a project of Lollipop company, a pop-up group that caters events throughout London. They were behind the similarly lucrative Breaking Bad-themed cocktail bar, ABQ. The cocktail bar inside an RV saw 45,000 people sign up for tickets in London last summer and is expected to move to Paris for the coming season.
On the restaurant’s website are promises of a project which looks to be “pure” in every way, with clothing optional, wood-grilled food served from clayware and even edible utensils. The menu remains mostly a mystery, and there will be vegan and non-vegan options provided.
The Bunyadi plans to use only the most natural, home-grown ingredients to envelope its patrons in a Pangea-like world, free from phones, electric lights and even clothing (not compulsory)! Lollipop wants to take diners to a beginning where everything was fresh, free and unadulterated from the trappings of modern life.
According to the founder of this latest project, Seb Lyall:
“I think it will appeal to vegans and naturists from all over the UK. It won’t be a first date venue but certainly second dates and dinner with friends.”
