Boko Haram: 13,243 Terrorists With Families Have Surrendered In North East – DHQ


According to the Defence Headquarters, 13,243 terrorists and their families have so far surrendered to soldiers in the North East.

Brig.-Gen. Bernard Onyeuko, acting Director, Defence Media Activities, said this while providing an update on military operations across the country on Thursday in Abuja.

According to Onyeuko, the terrorists who surrendered were 3,243 men, 3,868 women, and 6,234 children.

According to Onyeuko, the troops of Operation Hadin Kai maintained an aggressive posture with energy in the North East, yielding major results in the last two weeks.

He claimed that a series of ground and air operations undertaken in several sites across the North East theatre had degraded the rebels’ operational capabilities, with several of them being neutralized.

According to Onyeuko, numerous others were apprehended alongside their informants and logistics suppliers, as additional terrorists continued to lay down their arms and surrender to the military alongside their families.

“Some of these accomplishments were documented in Borno State at Gwoza – Yamtake – Bita route, Gwoza – Farm Centre – Yamtake road, Mandara Mountain area, as well as Pulka and Hambagda towns.”

“Overall, 29 terrorists were neutralized throughout the period, while 13 terrorists, including informants/collaborators and logistics providers, were apprehended during the operations.”

“In addition, a total of 38 miscellaneous weapons and 968 rounds of assorted ammunition, as well as 48 rustled animals, were recovered, among other things.”

“A total of 13,243 terrorists and their families, including 3,243 males, 3,868 females, and 6,234 children, have surrendered to forces at various sites in the North East,” he said, according to NAN.

Onyeuko went on to say that the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai conducted air interdiction flights to prevent Boko Haram terrorists/ISWAP criminal elements from attacking ground forces at Aulari village in the Bama area of Borno.

He said that the encounter resulted in the destruction of three terrorist gun trucks and the neutralization of scores of their combatants, while several more fled in disorder with varied degrees of injury.
