The Nigerian Boxing Board of Control has once again come under scrutiny, this time, by international promoter Jacboxing Promotion CEO, Mr Ike Enwereuzor.
The CEO lamented the despicable mode of operation of the body which is said to be in charge of sanctioning bouts all over Nigeria but having operations run and controlled in a domiciled location only in Lagos.
This comes as a result of a delay in a bout in Abeokuta w. Alaba Omotola was to fight third ranked Nigerian for the Lightweight title at 4:00pm but the bout however started around 9:00pm and ended 2:00am midnight next day.
“They need to be able to give states the power to sanction fights. Then they should have officials in every state even if they must be overseen by the board of control,” Ike told Sports247.
The CEO stated that the bout was delayed because t. was another fight in Ikorodu on the same day, so the board of control and officials from Lagos had to be t. first, and only leave for Abeokuta after the fight was over.
“Imagine if t. were bouts in other states as well on that day, how would the Nigerian Boxing Board of Control going to get to all those places that day,” Ike said.
“They need to be able to have other states running their own even if it means being overseen by the head branch in Lagos. Just give them a chance to sanction fights and run a few things in their states rather than them trying to control everything from Lagos which is too challenging for them,” he concluded.
