Delta Goodrem is not best pleased with NSW Health after the government body used her face to illustrate the Covid variant that shares the Australian singer’s name recently.

Following uproar from the star as well as fans, the organisation has since apologised for the faux pas.

During its Fact Check Friday, in answering questions about how well the booster jab dealt with the Delta variant, NSW Health had used an image of Goodrem with a couple of syringes appearing to jab her face.

The account had written: ‘The booster adds to your immunity definitely – possibly taking you up to similar protection against Omicron as two doses did against Delta.’

Not feeling the sentiment NSW Health was trying to get across, a fuming Goodrem had shared a screenshot of the image to her own account and wrote: ‘I have a HUGE problem with this @newsouthwaleshealth are you serious????????’.

She added: ‘Needles pointing at a picture of my head in an attempt to get your point across is disturbing!!!!!!’

Fans of the singer hit out at the post, with many calling for the health body to do better, as one fumed: ‘It really was disrespectful and disturbing… Glad @DeltaGoodrem called out @NSWHealth as it was inappropriate and unacceptable.’

In response to the uproar, NSW Health took down the Instagram story and issued an apology to the singer, writing: ‘We’d like to apologise to Delta Goodrem for our FCF story yesterday that used her image.

NSW health apologised for causing offense

‘We thought we were getting an important message across in a light-hearted way but instead caused offence.’

It went on: ‘Delta has done an amazing job to support everyone through the lockdowns with The Bunkerdown Sessions and we truly appreciate her amazing efforts. We’re very sorry.’

Goodrem has often found her likeness being associated with the Covid variant, due to sharing a name with the illness, and recently said she was quietly relieved a newer variant, Omicron, was dominating headlines instead of Delta.

Appearing on breakfast show Sunrise earlier this month the singer said: ‘Definitely, let’s move on. I don’t want to hear about this terrible Delta!

‘Get rid of her, get rid of her. I was . first!’

As host Natalie Barr conceded it ‘must’ve been hard’ hearing her name in the news every day linked to the then-prevalent Covid strain, Goodrem said: ‘It was definitely confusing to watch you guys in the morning, when I’m getting up I’d hear “Delta danger” or “Delta out of control” and I’d be like, “What? What?”‘

She joked: ‘What did I do? What happened?’

It comes as the Omicron variant continues to spread rapidly and has already been found in 89 countries around the world, according to the World Health Organisation.

Omicron was designated a variant of concern on November 26, soon after it was first detected in South Africa, and is now the dominant variant in the UK – with some 54.2% of a sample of new coronavirus cases across England with specimen dates for December 14 and 15 found to be Omicron.
