Doctor Who star Adjani Salmon has insisted the New Year special will be ‘heartwarming’ and ‘uplifting’ – despite the Doctor and co appearing to get exterminated by Daleks in the teaser.

Adjani…what are we not seeing .?!

Eve of the Daleks will see the Doctor (Jodie Whittaker), Yaz (Mandip Gill) and Dan (John Bishop) face the deadliest creatures in the universe once again, with unwitting companions Sarah (Aisling Bea) and Nick (Adjani).

Asked what fans will be feeling by the end of the special, which is one of Jodie’s final episodes in the role, Adjani told Metro.co.uk: ‘I think it will be heartwarming.

‘I think it’s definitely a good way to start the new year. I think [fans] will leave it looking forward to the specials that are coming.’

‘It’s definitely something uplifting,’ he added.

As for working with Jodie on one of her final ever episodes, Adjani said: ‘Jodie’s such a welcoming, fun spirit.

‘She’ll be busting jokes, everyone’s laughing and the next moment, it’s like, “Okay guys, we’re ready.” Literally, she’ll just switch on.

‘It was mindblowing to see in person. I didn’t even know it was [one of her last episodes] until shooting when it was announced!

‘It felt like such an honour to be a part of that.’

The official synopsis for the episode reads: ‘New Year’s Eve. Sarah (Aisling Bea) is working – again.

‘Nick (Adjani Salmon) is her only customer – again. Same old same old. Except this year, their countdown to midnight will be the strangest and deadliest they’ve ever known.

‘Why is an Executioner Dalek targeting these two people, in this place, on this night? Why are they having to live through the same moments again? Can the Doctor (Jodie Whittaker), Yaz (Mandip Gill) and Dan (John Bishop) save them and survive into the New Year?’

It’s the first of three specials airing in 2022, with the final one, in autumn, being when we have to say goodbye to Jodie as the 13th Doctor.
