Ed Sheran has joined the Money Heist family after a somewhat successful audition for a British version of the hit Netflix show.

In a comedy skit posted to the streamer’s socials today, the singer-songwriter attends an audition for the role of Glasgow, which would be the British version of Berlin (.ed by Pedro Alonso in the original Spanish show).

He pulled off all the stops, coming in with his own costume and mask, and while Ed believed he’s a good fit, the casting director did not seem so convinced.

Right off the bat, Ed tried to change the name of the character from Glasgow to Ipswich, ‘just because it’s a little bit more personal to me, you know,’ said the pop star, who was born in Halifax but grew up in Suffolk.

Ed then performed a few of the show’s most iconic lines (some even from other characters) before trying to . on his strengths.

‘So I know that Pedro Alonso is an amazing singer and I love that scene at the wedding but for the UK version, I thought I could sing this one…’ he said before breaking into a performance of his 2017 hit single Perfect.

The casting director was not convinced though and asked Ed what else he had in stock, to which Ed replied with a version of Bad Habits, with the lyrics changed to include references to the show.

He also tried out for another character, the Professor (originally Álvaro Morte, who recently starred in The Wheel of Time): Ed tried his glasses trick and laid out his plans to rob Buckingham Palace.

‘Well, yeah, I loved it,’ said the person behind the camera, ‘ but really t. is someone else who has the last word on all the auditions for the show.’

Jumping on a video call with Morte himself, Ed finally received some praise: ‘Personally I think I see you more as one of the members of la banda. Ispwich, right?’ said the actor on the other side of the screen.

‘Hey listen, I really like your Buckingham Palace idea. So I have a business proposal How does £2.4billion sound to you?’

‘Tell me more,’ added Ed.

The Queen better watch her back with these two.

At the end of the skit, Ed brought another brilliant idea to the table, suggesting to change the same of the show to Quid Game for its UK version.

Unfortunately, it’s unlikely Ipswich will ever see the light of day beyond this sketch, but Netflix announced yesterday that while Money Heist is coming to an end, a new series all about Berlin is coming to the streamer in 2023.

Better luck next time, Ed?
