An enraged mob killed a leader of the banned Eastern Security Network (ESN) on Monday as he attempted to impose a sit-at-home order with his gang members.
Mr Rabiu Hussaini, the Commissioner of Police in Imo, verified the event in a press statement signed by CSP Mike Abattam, the police spokesman.
He said that the ESN member had been lynched before the police patrol squad arrived on the spot, and that his gang members had escaped.
He went on to say that Hussaini has ordered the lynching suspects to be turned over to the police for a thorough inquiry.
