Why Use Sugar Scrub?

Sugar contains glycolic acid used to treat sunburn and aging skin. This makes sugar scrubs good exfoliants.

They help make your skin soft, bright and healthy by getting rid of dead skin cells and excess oil. Thus, they pave way for your skincare products to circulate and penetrate better into your skin instead of staying on the surface. This way, the glowing skin you have underneath pops out.

In addition, whenever you feel tired or stressed, massaging your skin with this exfoliant can help you feel relaxed and calm.

  • Measuring cup and spoon
  • Jar with a lid
  • Sugar (brown, pure cane or turbinado sugar)
  • Natural oil (coconut oil, olive oil, almond oil, apricot oil, jojoba oil, avocado oil, etc)

How to Make Sugar Scrub

2. Pour in Your Oil, One Tablespoon at a Time

You can use any of the above stated oil depending on your choice or what’s available for you. Mix it thoroughly with the sugar. While mixing, if you discover the mixture isn’t consistent, you can add more sugar or oil. The consistency of your mixture should be sandy rather than soupy. That is, the oil shouldn’t be more than the sugar otherwise the sugar will dissolve and won’t be able to exfoliate your skin well. If the consistency is soupy, add more sugar.

3. Pour into a Jar

After mixing and you’re satisfied with the outcome, pour the scrub into a jar and cover it with a lid. You can use the spoon you used in stirring the combo to move it from the bowl to the jar.

How to Use Sugar Scrub to Exfoliate Your Skin

It is best to use the scrub after cleansing your face. If you’re applying it on your whole body, do so after showering while in the bathroom.

Hence, you should first of all cleanse your face before exfoliating. You can either use a face cleanser or wash your face.

Afterwards, scoop out the scrub and massage on your face in circular motions. Be gentle while at it so you don’t irritate your skin.

In addition, once you’ve massaged for a while and you’re done exfoliating, rinse your face with lukewarm water and pat dry with a soft towel.

Finally, moisturise your skin and watch the oil, cream or lotion you use penetrate deep into your skin for better results.

How Often Should You Exfoliate?

You don’t have to exfoliate your skin every day. Excessive exfoliation makes your skin dry and easily irritated. You can exfoliate two or three times a week but if your skin is dry, once a week is fine.
