The Nigerian Super Falcons, the female equivalent of the men’s football team, Super Eagles, did well to impress on the African stage, even more than its male counterpart.
The Falcons succeeded in scaling past the round of 16 compared to the Super Eagles, and even got almost an inch to the final of the 2022 WAFCON tournament.
It was so agonizing close that only a few mistakes cut short said journey even though the women had initially taken the lead against Morocco women team.
Generally, those mistakes would be attributed to its Coach, Randy Waldrum, but the manager has come out to defend himself, declaring vehemently to his critics, ‘I did nothing wrong’.
Randy Waldrum defended his tactical decisions even as his team succumbed to defeat to the Atlas Lionesses of Morocco in the Semi Final.
The game ended 1-1 after extra time leading to a penalty shoot out w. Morocco emerged victors in a 5-4 aggregate in front of a record 45,562 crowd support in th host nation’s stadium.
Speaking on his tactical and substitution choices after the game, Randy Waldrum said:
“I’m not going to get into that,” the Former college and NWSL coach had given a testy response to the media.
“I’ll say the subs we made were the right subs in the match and we couldn’t have asked more from the .ers.”
The defeat sees the Super Falcons switch attention to the third place fixture in an effort to see if they can bow out of the campaign with at least a medal on Friday against Zambia.
It was a worthy battle by the Falcons who held on with 9 .ers against the 11 of Morocco to see the game into penalties.
