On October 1, the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) would execute a sit-at-home order. On October 1, Nigeria will celebrate its 61st anniversary of independence.
IPOB spokesman Emma Powerful said in a statement today that the group will also take down Nigerian flags in the south-east region.
According to Powerful, the prohibited group is acting in conjunction with Ambazonia, a secessionist group in Cameroon, whose ostensible independence day is October 1.
“On October 1, 2021, the IPOB has proclaimed a total shutdown in Biafra territory as a statement of our rejection of the Nigerian construct, and there will be no movement in Biafra land on that day,” he stated.
“In addition, IPOB has decided that starting today, September 25, 2021, all Nigerian flags flying everywhere in Biafra land must be hauled down, with banks being the exception.
“The leadership of the IPOB will speak directly with banks and explain why they must quietly remove the Nigerian flag from their banking premises before we do it ourselves in our own way.
“Everyone must carefully follow IPOB leadership’s directions; we want the world to know that Biafraland is not Nigeria and never will be.
“We encourage Biafrans to join the people of Ambazonia in celebrating their God-given freedom and independence.”
