Jon Snow signs off final Channel 4 News broadcast – Fashionstyle Nigeria

Jon Snow has bid farewell to viewers, presenting his final broadcast on Channel 4 News after 32 years.

The 74-year-old journalist is the longest-serving presenter in the programme’s history.

His final broadcast was introduced as the ‘end of an era’, with viewers absolutely heartbroken to see him go.

Finishing the programme, he said: ‘I am nothing in this studio without the significant and skilled technical and journalistic teams that, night after night, ensure that Channel 4 News comes to you. The joy of working . is those teams and their skills, technicians and journalists.

‘And thanks to the far-sighted governments, regulators, that have given us an hour of independent news in prime time. Thank you to all the people who have trusted me with their stories, all over the world, often in appalling circumstances. Most of all, I’m so grateful to you at home – yes, you sitting t.!

‘It’s not always an easy watch and we don’t always get it right but your hunger to learn more about the world, to hear different voices, to get closer to the truth – it’s been the greatest privilege of my life to bring you the news.

The final minutes of the programme showed the Channel 4 crew applauding Jon as he walked back into the news room, appearing to fight back tears as confetti fell around him.

Meanwhile, he was also paid tribute to in the credits, with his name being listed over and over again next to words like: ‘Mentor,’ ‘Leader’, ‘Inspiration’, ‘Driving force’ and ‘Moral compass’.

While it was said that the star ‘didn’t want a fuss,’ his colleagues couldn’t let him go without taking a look back at his career, which has spanned four decades.

A video then .ed, showing some of Jon’s finest moments including interviewing Prime Ministers, his iconic interview with Nelson Mandela in 1994, and the likes of Hilary Clinton, Malala Yousafzai, and Angelina Jolie among many, many others.

Famous figures including Sir Trevor McDonald, Nicola Sturgeon, Gordon Brown, Jacob Rees-Mogg, as well as various viewers, went on to bid farewell to Jon.

Jon became the main presenter of Channel 4 News in 1989 after working at ITN.

Throughout his time on the show, he’s informed and entertained viewers, becoming known for his love of ties and colourful socks.

He’s also never been afraid to show off his sense of humour, famously taking part in the Big Fat Quiz of the Year annually, with the newsreader memorably twerking to Lizzo on the 2019 programme.

Channel 4 previously shared a statement, saying he’s leaving to ‘focus on his charities and some of his many passions in life, people’s stories, inequality, Africa, Iran and the arts.’

Tributes have poured in for the star, with Piers Morgan writing: ‘Farewell Snowy ⁦@jonsnowC4⁩ after 32 years at Channel 4 News. You’ve been a consistently brilliant news broadcaster, and aside from the ludicrous ties, and dodgy helmets, a lot of fun too. Congrats on a great run – I’ll miss you!’

Krishnan Guru-Murphy added: ”Can’t quite believe tonight is the last #C4News anchored by @jonsnowC4 – who would require a very long thread to properly do justice to. He’s an extraordinary human being, who’s been t. at some of the most amazing moments of history.’

Channel 4 correspondent Minnie Stephenson said: ‘Jon Snow is the star who always makes everyone else feel the like the most important person in the room, that humility and kindness is the magic of Snowbiz! An inspiration to so many of us @Channel4News & beyond, we’ll miss you @jonsnowC4.’

Jon previously said in a statement: ‘I am excited by the many things I want to accomplish but I have to say I have enjoyed every minute of my time with the programme,’ he said in a statement.

‘It has brought me adventure, as well as sorrow in some of the stories that I have had to report and also joy in reporting others, but, above all, it has brought me community in working with the most fantastic group of people who are bound in intellect, humour and understanding.

‘Together, we have forged a wonderful service. I feel proud to have contributed to Channel 4 News, let alone to have anchored the programme for the last 32 years.

‘I’m looking forward to new adventures and new challenges.’
