Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has once again stressed that the club won’t be panic buying a midfielder this summer, and has put his faith in Naby Keita as the ‘solution’.

Klopp is no stranger to an injury crisis at Liverpool, with the German left stunned as all of his centre-back options were ruled out during the 2020/21 season. However, this time around it’s in the central midfield area that Liverpool are struggling, with Thiago joining Curtis Jones and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain on the sidelines.

Liverpool still have world-class talent in Jordan Henderson and Fabinho at their disposal, and both James Milner and Harvey Elliott continue to feature. But Klopp has given Keita one more vow of confidence by claiming he is the answer.

The Reds were chasing a new midfielder earlier this summer, with their admiration for Jude Bellingham perhaps one of football’s worst kept secrets. But Liverpool are prepared to wait for next year to seal a deal after it was confirmed that the England star would remain at Borussia Dortmund this summer.

Liverpool also tried to sign now former Monaco midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni, but the Frenchman snubbed the Reds in favour of Real Madrid. Liverpool don’t just sign .ers for the sake of it, and have shown under FSG that they are prepared to wait for the right talent.

But one of their talents that is still yet to fully prove their worth is Keita, and Klopp is ready to give him one final chance to win over the Anfield crowd. In Klopp’s pre-match press conference ahead of Monday’s clash against Crystal Palace, the German said: “I am happy with the size and quality of my squad. T. are different solutions (for the injuries).

Keita has been given many opportunities since making the £52million move from RB Leipzig in 2018, and although he’s had bright moments in a Liverpool shirt, he’s yet to have that breakthrough year. Liverpool’s recruitment has been seamless since Klopp took charge, but Keita remains one of the few blemishes on the transfer record.

Injuries have also .ed a part in Keita’s stalled progression, but t. may be no better opportunity for the Guinean to push for a regular starting spot. Keita’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season, although a new deal is reportedly in the works, but his start to the campaign could make or break his Liverpool career.
