The Kogi State Police Command has launched an inquiry into a viral video in which four of its officers are accused of extorting N25,000 from a traveller while another is physically abused by one of the men in uniform.
We learned that while on patrol duty along the Adogo-Okene route, police officers assigned to the Adogo Division allegedly committed the act that has sparked widespread condemnation in the state.
According to a statement released on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP William Ovye Aya, the Kogi State Commissioner of Police, CP Idrisu Dauda Dabban, while condemning the incident, noted that the Police officers have been identified and detained at the State Criminal Investigations Department.
According to Aya, the officers are: ASP Isah Barnabas, Inspector Ifediegwu Godwin, Sgt Emmanuel Ochima, and CPL Umameh Mathias.
“The Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) has been issued an official question,” he stated, “while the three (3) other younger officers are currently undergoing orderly chamber trial (Police internal disciplinary measures).”
The statement further stated that the Command is making every effort to contact the victims.
He urged the victims to contact the Command at 08107899269.
He promised that any cops found to be lacking in the investigations would be dealt with appropriately.
