The Lagos state government closed 11 facilities, including event venues, lounges and nightclubs, over the weekend after they were found guilty of violating COVID19 protocols in the state.
Confirming this fact to journalists, the director general of the Lagos State Security Commission (LSC), Lanre Mojola, said that while the affected event centers originally informed the agency of their intention to organize parties and events, they did not met the agency’s expectations in complying with COVID-19 protocols.

According to Mojola, the number of people approved for the event centers was outnumbered by what officials found on the ground when they visited the venues over the weekend. He said those facilities were sealed for noncompliance with the State and Federal Government’s COVID-19 Health Protection Regulation.
Mojola, who was represented at the property sealing by Dr. Wale Adeboje, LSC’s Event Security Manager, maintained that the compliance exercise saw the event venues, bars and lounges sealed between Saturday and Sunday.
DNA Victoria Island, Twist Lounge Kofo Abayomi Victoria Island, Carlsbad Lounge Adeniyi Jones Ikeja and Darts Event Center, Grammar School, Ifako Ijaiye, Lagos also violated COVID-19 protocols.
The facilities were sealed off for not complying with the Event Security Authorization issued by the commission.
The commission will continue to monitor and enforce compliance statewide while warning that all violators and perpetrators of COVID-19 will be summoned to the commission’s Alausa office for further instructions on what to do regarding their negligence and non-compliance, “Mojola said.
He added that the event facilities visited requested 50 guests inside and 150 guests outside but to the surprise of the commission, they had 150 guests inside and more than 200 guests outside without following the use of masks and hand sanitizers.
