Lagos State Government Declares 21-Year Jail Term for Land Grabbers

Land grabbers have been getting away with claiming other people’s properties, but not anymore. The Lagos state governor, under the leadership of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, has signed a law against land grabbing.

Ambode said the menace of land grabbing has hindered investors from coming into the state and to regulate the act,  the federal government has placed a 21-year jail term on land grabbers if arrested, tried and found guilty.

Governor Ambode also said that the law will help those who have fallen victim in the hands of land grabbers to seek redress as well as find justice for their rights to owning properties in the metropolitan city of Lagos.

“The Lagos State Properties Protection Law will give legal backing to the operations of our law enforcement officers, governor Akinwunmi  Ambode said. “The main objective of this Law is to ensure that our investors, businessmen and the general populace carry on their legitimate land/property transactions without any hindrance or intimidation henceforth.

“The Properties Law will eliminate the activities of persons or corporate entities who use force and intimidation to dispossess or prevent any person or entity from acquiring legitimate interest and possession of property, ensure that the Special Task Force on Land-Grabbers work with all Security agencies to ensure enforcement of state government and Private property rights in the state, and ensure proper coordination of the efforts of the various agencies of Government charged with enforcing the state government’s rights over land in Lagos.”

Governor Ambode, since his assumption into office, has been doing remarkable things that show he has the interest of Lagosians at heart. Just recently, the also signed the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps Law, which is aimed at protecting the lives and properties of Lagosians.
