Little Mix are celebrating 10 years since they were announced as the winners of The X Factor.

On December 11 2011, Jade Thirlwall, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, Perrie Edwards and Jesy Nelson made history by becoming the first girl band ever to win the singing competition.

Being crowned the winners at the peak of The X Factor’s popularity, Little Mix are far and away the most successful winners of the talent show, being crowned a year after One Direction were on the series, who were runners up in 2010.

Since that night 10 years ago, the band’s career has skyrocketed, seeing them tour the world, clinch multiple number ones and release six studio albums.

Their announcement earlier this month that they would be taking a break following the end of their Confetti tour lefts fan broken-hearted, but the three remaining members – Leigh-Anne, Perrie and Jade – have insisted that they remain close friends and cherish their time in the band.

This is absolutely clear today, as Little Mix have shared an emotional message on social media to mark ’10 years since we won The X Factor’.

‘The most life-changing moment ever for all of us,’ they wrote on their official Twitter account.

‘Thank you for all the support over the last decade.’

The tweet was accompanied by a sentimental video which showed the members reflecting on the life-changing moment they and their mentor Tulisa celebrated their victory on stage.

Leigh-Anne, looking teary-eyed, said they were ‘little babies’, and ‘you can see in our faces we did not expect that’!

Perrie said: ‘This was the most life-changing event ever, for all of us,’ adding: ‘We didn’t even think we would make it to the first week!’

‘I literally love Tulisa so much,’ she added. ‘She was our rock through the whole experience.’

Jade says she ‘can’t even remember’ the moment they were crowned the winners on stage, but agreed with Perrie that ‘Tulisa is our sister and always will be’.

Fans of the band were just as emotional as they celebrated the milestone moment, with one recalling how they beat the bookies’ odds to get ‘bigger and bigger’, adding that they ‘never forget how shocked they were every time they got through’.

In the past decade since they won the career-starting show, Jesy recently set off on her own, with the rest of the band now all taking a break for now.

Their hiatus comes shortly after Leigh-Anne and Perrie became mums for the first time.

In a ‘terribly emotional’ interview following the announcement of their break, Jade said: ‘It’s been 10 incredible years and we always said if we’re going to take a little break it would be on an incredible high, at our peak so it seems like the right time.

‘We are family and love each other to bits so what’s lovely is that whatever we go off and do we can support each other through it and celebrate each other – it’s a lovely way to do it.’
