Childbirth is a pretty wonderful thing so you can imagine the wonder when a baby is born not once, but twice.
A woman from Texas, US, Margaret Boemer had to have her baby temporarily taken out 12 weeks before the actual delivery of the baby for a lifesaving operation.
While Boemer was pregnant, doctors discovered a tumour in the tailbone of the unborn baby during a check-up 16 weeks into her pregnancy.
According to Dailymail, “Her only hope was a medical procedure that required surgeons to open up the womb and take the 1 lb, 3 oz foetus out for 20 minutes for a do-or-die operation — and then put her back and sew up the uterus.”
This was exactly what the doctors did and the procedure was successful. Little Lynlee Hope was born at nearly 36 weeks for the second time via C-section.
“Essentially, the foetus is outside, like completely out, all the amniotic fluid falls out, it’s actually fairly dramatic,” explained Dr. Cass, one of the surgeons who carried out the operation.
“It’s kind of a miracle you’re able to open the uterus like that and seal it all back and the whole thing works,” he added.
The mother, Margaret when explaining her joy of actually getting to take her baby home, said, “It was her second birth, basically. I was willing to endure all those risks to give her a chance at life.”
