Michael Dapaah proud Mo Gilligan’s Brit Awards presenting gig – Fashionstyle Nigeria
Michael Dapaah has praised ‘big brother’ Mo Gilligan on his journey to becoming the first Black British star to host the Brit Awards.
It was confirmed last month that the comedian and The Masked Singer panelist, 33, will host the ceremony for the first time when it returns on February 8, 2022, and he described it as an ‘absolute privilege’.
Funnyman Jack Whitehall, 33, has presented the annual star-studded event since 2018, but he announced in September that he will be ‘handing on the baton’ due to filming commitments overseas.
Michael, who hailed the star as an ‘inspirational figure’, has expressed just how proud he was of Mo’s latest achievement.
Speaking to Metro.co.uk, he said: ‘I remember when we used to skit ideas in my smart car and we used to film insta lives at his mum’s house.
‘Mo, he’s a big brother really, an inspirational figure and I’m really proud of him. I’m happy he’s got this opportunity.
‘Jack Whitehall has done a great job for the past four years now, but I think it’s only right that someone else steps up.’
This also marks a historic moment as Mo will be the first Black British star to host the Brits; RuPaul previously hosted alongside Elton John in 1994.
Michael, who stars in JD’s latest Christmas advert which celebrates youth culture and features YouTube star KSI and rapper Little Simz, also expressed how proud he is seeing black talent recognised in the UK today.
‘T.’s also a lot of Black talented females doing their thing, obviously Maya Jama.
‘We have all these fresh faces in the UK that have the potential to take it somew. that it’s never been taken before. It’s so amazing to be amongst what’s happening right now.’
