NDLEA Nabs Fake Soldier, 667 Drug Traffickers


The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) detained 667 drug traffickers and users during operations at notorious drug joints in Abuja, Benue, Lagos, and other parts of the country, including a phony soldier, a police officer, and a youth corps member.

In a statement sent to the Daily Post on Sunday, NDLEA spokesman Femi Babafemi revealed that approximately 153, 256.876kgs of illicit substances were either destroyed or seized in the previous week.

In Lagos, he said that the renowned drug haven of Akala in the Mushin region of the state was stormed on Friday, 15 October by a team of 70 NDLEA agents and 30 soldiers in a joint operation code-named ‘Operation Still Waters,’ leading to his arrest.

The NDLEA official stated that 27 individuals were apprehended, as well as various substances including as Cocaine, Heroin, Tramadol, Rohypnol, and Cannabis weighing a total of 2,463.876Kg.

He stated that a day earlier, detectives stormed drug dens in the Ojo and Maryland regions of the state, arresting six people and seizing various amounts of drugs.

“This followed another raid of Alhaji Lasisi street, Idioro, Mushin, and Okota in the Oshodi-Isolo area of the state during which 12 suspects were arrested and over 165kg of different illicit substances recovered,” he said.

In Ogun State, the statement stated that on Friday, October 15, operatives arrested one Williams Esuabom along the Ore- Shagamu expressway with 562.5kg Cannabis being transported in a Toyota sienna bus, while in Benue State, narcotic officers in a joint operation with soldiers raided Lafia park and arrested six suspects, including a youth corps member, Paul Ndubuisi, with various quantities of drugs.

He stated that this followed the arrest of a suspected fake soldier, Abel John, along the Apir- Makurdi-Aliade road on Wednesday, October 13th, with 3.5kg Cannabis.

According to him, in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, a suspected false Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Joshua Yusuf, who claimed to be serving in Kano, was detained while transporting 45.5kg of cannabis along the Gwagwalada expressway.

On Wednesday, October 13, three individuals were apprehended during operations in Dabba and Luku villages, Kaiama Local Government Area, Kwara State, where over 64kg of drugs were confiscated.

The NDLEA operatives stormed the forest reserve along Uso Road, Ise-Orun local government area in Ekiti State, destroying over 150,000kgs of cannabis harvested on 40 hectares of land during a three-day operation, according to the spokesman.

The operation, which began on Tuesday and lasted until Sunday, October 17, stated that 615 people were apprehended and illicit narcotics weighing a total of 3394.2031kgs were recovered.
