Nigeria’s Challenges Can’t Be Solved By Social Media, Street Protests – Kwara YPP

Lamentations, social media, and street protests will not fix Nigeria’s current problems.

Charles Olufemi Folayan, Chairman of the Young Progressive Party, YPP, in Kwara State, said this at a news conference at the party’s secretariat in Ilorin on Thursday, during a peaceful march to commemorate the one-year anniversary of the End SARS protest.

He stated that Nigerian youths must “march from the street to the vote box in order to achieve the YPP ballot revolution.”

“Fellow young Nigerians, let us remain calm and continue to strive for Nigeria’s peace and unity; let us be patriotic enough to collect our permanent voter cards (PVC) and vote.”

“Remember, there is no polling unit on social media or on the street,” he remarked, presumably dismissing the street protests, which he said had failed to produce the desired outcomes.

The YPP chairman also attacked the re-election of politicians who are either too old, too sick, or too morally weak to manage the country.

He asked the youths to work together in the YPP party to usher in credible leaders with new ideas, innovation, energy, and intellectual capacity to galvanize the productive skills of the youths in order to generate answers to the country’s difficulties.

“We are the generation who will inherit this country, but first we must save her,” he continued.

Folayan recalled with concern the 2020 rallies by Nigerian youths against police brutality and terrible administration, seeking a reset with fury and frustration.

“Unfortunately, the government’s response was initially muffled but eventually became loudly violent.”

“We must not forget that many young Nigerians were maimed and died while striving for a better society,” he remarked.

He urged the youth to make certain that the sacrifices of the dead heroes were not in vain.

“We must see the Endsars’ protest as proof of Nigeria’s ability and capacity to reborn,” he said.
