Spider-Man: No Way Home has sadly lost its perfect score on review website Rotten Tomatoes.

The hugely anticipated film was unveiled to critics on Tuesday, and first enjoyed an incredible 100% rating on the site as critic reviews poured in.

No Way Home, the third with Tom Holland as the web-singing hero, promised the return of old villains – and possibly even old heroes, with Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield speculated to make an appearance.

Fans who were concerned that the film couldn’t possibly live up to the enormous hype were delighted as positive review after positive review were uploaded to Rotten Tomatoes, and hours after its premiere, the 100% rating held strong.

Now however, while the reviews are still overwhelmingly positive, the superhero film has lost its perfect score, sliding down slightly to 95%.

With 116 reviews, 110 critics certified No Way Home as ‘fresh’, while six declared it to be ‘rotten’.

The Daily Telegraph dismissed it as an ‘all-star Zoom call with a visual effects budget’ (ouch), while TotalFilm said it felt ‘overstocked and underwhelming’.

Still, the six rotten reviews so far are massively outnumbered by the critics who were impressed by Sony and Marvel’s latest collaboration.

Metro.co.uk said No Way Home would make fans ‘fall in love with the franchise all over again’, praising it as the ‘most ambitious’ Spider-Man film yet.

The Evening Standard declared it an ‘instant classic’, full of ‘clever, tender, funny and rousing’ moments.

With No Way Home hitting cinemas today, December 15, Rotten Tomatoes will soon be hit with hundreds upon hundreds of fan reviews – and that’s when the rating will get really interesting.

Stars of the franchise, Tom and Zendaya, have been flat out on the promotional trail for the new film over the past number of weeks, dropping hints about what to expect and talking about who they would like to appear in the next films (Spoiler alert: How good would Timothée Chalamet be as Harry Osborn?!)

Tom previously warned that fans may not be ready for the twists of No Way Home, admitting the new film is ‘dark’ and ‘sad’.

Spider-Man: No Way Home sees deal with the fallout of Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal) publicly announcing his identity at the end of the second chapter.

He enlists the help of Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) to wipe the memories of those who learned his identity – including girlfriend MJ and Aunt May.

But the spells cause the return of some of Spidey’s worst enemies – though, granted, from some different universes.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is in cinemas now.
