The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Abdullahi Adamu, says the defeat suffered by the party during the July 16 governorship election in Osun State would serve as a lesson to the party ahead of the 2023 elections.
DAILY NIGERIAN reports that the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, Ademola Adeleke, had defeated the incumbent governor and the candidate of the APC, Gboyega Oyetola, during the July 16 governorship election in the state.
Speaking during an interview with the BBC Hausa Service, Mr Adamu said after the defeat, it became evident that t. was a crisis in the party.
Mr Adamu, t.fore, appealed to aggrieved party members to sheath their swords and work for the victory of the party in the forthcoming 2023 elections.
He said: “It’s important for all party members to close ranks and retrace their wrong steps so that we can win the 2023 elections.”
While dismissing the insinuation that Mr Oyetola’s defeat signaled an impending defeat of the ruling party in the 2023 presidential election, Mr Adamu stressed that the defeat only provided the party the opportunity to review its strategy.
“We would have to sit and see w. the problems are arising from, what are we doing right, what are we doing wrong, what are the things that need to be changed, all these would be looked into, so we can nail the issues,” Mr Adamu said.
