Sheikh Muhammad Khalid, the Chief Imam of Apo Legislative Quarters Juma’at Mosque in Abuja, has again chastised President Muhammadu Buhari for the country’s growing insecurity.
In a sermon on Friday, Sheikh Khalid, who has recently been one of Buhari’s harshest opponents, accused the President of failing to live up to the expectations of Nigerians who voted overwhelmingly for him in 2015 and 2019.
In the video, the Sheikh compares the degree of insecurity in previous President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration to that of Buhari’s, giving the incumbent a low score.
He went on to say that he has ceased praying for the current administration’s success since it is a waste of time because nothing appears to be changing.
“I have to be just because my religion demands it of me.
“I am a hypocrite if I stated things like this under the Goodluck Jonathan era and now refuse to say it because I share the president’s religion and ethnic inclination,” he added in the video.
Continuing, the cleric, who had previously urged Buhari to restore Nigeria to the state in which he found it, said:
“We are playing with fire in Nigeria; the massacres are taking on the form of genocide, and people are dying on a daily basis as a result.
“This regime is killing more people than Goodluck Jonathan’s regime.
This dictatorship has been deceiving the public by claiming that security has improved.
“Where is the progress when our children are unable to attend school in some regions of the country and some states are controlled by bandits?
“During Jonathan’s tenure, just a few states were under Boko Haram’s control; now, tell me how many states in the country are safe?
“Back then (before Jonathan’s presidency), Boko Haram was only in control of a few states.
“Now, tell me how many states in the country are safe? Even his (Buhari’s) home state of Katsina is not safe.
“His state includes the Kankara Local Government Area. There are around five local governments in Zamfara State that have been declared no-go zones.”
“In Borno State, there are specific spots where you can’t go without being escorted.Other regions are also dealing with insecurity in one form or another.”
“Unknown gunmen are spreading devastation if it isn’t bandits. Let us tell him the truth: it (insecurity) is worse under him (Buhari). Allow him to return us to 2015 if he is unable to improve.”
“Bandits did not operate the way they do now before he took office. During the previous administration, how many schools were assaulted and how many students were kidnapped?”
“Remember how we screamed when the Chibok girls were kidnapped? How many have we seen under Buhari, and we aren’t pleading with him to return our schoolchildren and put an end to the scourge?”
“Can you convince someone in Kaduna, Zamfara, and other places that things are getting better?
“A congressman in Katsina State claimed he can’t go to his area because he’s afraid of being attacked, and he’s not the only one.”
“You call it an improvement when many of these individuals have no peace of mind?”
“Yes, some people will disagree with me because they have two passports and know where they can flee if things spiral out of control; they are not being honest.”
He stated, “We have ceased praying for Buhari because we have not seen any results.”
