You should not consider resigning every time you have problems in your relationship. Sometimes all you and your spouse need to do is work things out, sit down and chat, and get back on track. This is also true in marriages.
If you’ve reached the point where you realize your relationship is failing but don’t know what to do, we’re here to help.
Here are some pointers to get you started:
1. Pay attention
It may appear overly basic, but truly listening to—and questioning—what your partner says leads to not only better talks, but also better communication.
2. Take a few days off.
Missing each other is an excellent method to re-establish contact. You’d love it if you could get together with some girlfriends once a month for an overnight stay or a weekend break.
3. Form a support group.
Have a few terrific friends or family members you can call so your significant other doesn’t have to hear about every minor annoyance in your life.
4. Participate in activities together
Make a list of new and exciting activities you want to do as a couple for the day and do your best to do them. Giving back is an excellent way to maintain perspective on how wonderful your relationship is and how fortunate you both are.
5. Consult a relationship counselor.
You should both get counseling from an expert relationship therapist. Get relationship advice from them and discover what you may apply to your own relationship.
6. Be grateful for your relationship
Take a moment to enjoy everything that your relationship is right now. Stop wishing for what it could be.
This person has chosen to be in your life on a daily basis, rather than on a future basis.
7. Ask the questions you posed at the outset.
What do you hope to achieve in the coming year? What are you afraid of? These answers fluctuate throughout time, regardless of how long you’ve been dating, therefore we need to keep asking these questions.
8. Avoid nagging.
Take a step back and identify the serious issues with your relationship that actually upset you, then approach them to chat from a place of care and support rather than constantly picking on them.
That will not get you anywhere.
9. Look after yourself
There can be no success in a relationship if you don’t feel good about yourself, both inside and out.
So, before you try to repair that connection, make sure you first repair yourself.
