Obadiah Mailafia, a former deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has died.
Mr. Mailafia, 64, died at the National Hospital in Abuja on Sunday morning.
Mr Obadiah Mailafia was a professor of economics at various universities in the Christian-dominated Southern Kaduna.
He spent the last years of his life pushing for an end to the long-running killings in Southern Kaduna, which were blamed on armed Fulani herders.
As part of his campaign, he became a vocal opponent of President Muhammadu Buhari and security agencies, and the State Security Service recently asked him to explain some of his on-air comments concerning premeditated bloodshed around the country.
The Department of State Services invited the former presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for his claim that a serving Northern governor was the commander of the dangerous Boko Haram insurgents.
