Striker Allen dumps preseason camp for’Love Island’ show – Sporting Life

National League side Halifax Town have revealed their forward Jamie Allen has left their pre-season camp to star on the ITV reality show Love Island, adding “the matter will be reviewed on his return”.

Allen, 27, has .ed for Halifax Town since 2019, after departing Dover Athletic.

The Montserrat international was a first-team regular for Halifax last season, .ing in 24 National League matches and scoring one goal.

But Allen will now miss a portion of the club’s pre-season after deciding to star on Love Island, a dating game show in which contestants must “couple up” with one another to avoid being “dumped” from a glamorous villa in Spain.

Halifax Town said in a short statement on Wednesday: “Jamie Allen has decided to join the cast of Love Island 2022, making his intentions clear that the opportunity is very important to him.

“The matter will be reviewed on his return.”

Allen is not the first footballer to feature on the popular television show.

Dennon Lewis, who starred in season five, began his career at Watford and signed for National League side Boreham Wood in 2021.

Aaron Simpson starred in the seventh series after helping Sutton United seal promotion to League Two in the 2020-21 campaign.

And Gemma Owen  daughter of the former England and Liverpool striker Michael — is among the favourites to win the current series of the programme.Allen, recently signed a contract extension with the National League side.

“The matter will be reviewed on his return,” the Yorkshire club said in a statement on Twitter.
