Are you attending a wedding in Nigeria for the first time (or not) and you want to know how much it costs to attend a Nigerian wedding? You’re in order. Attending a wedding can be a drain on your pockets if you don’t plan carefully, and nobody wants to be broke after turning up during the weekend.

These are the basic things you need to consider to attend a Nigerian wedding:

1. Transportation

If you don’t have a car, we are pretty sure you don’t want to walk, jump bus or okada when you’re gorgeously dressed and looking all peng. Private . services to the rescue! You can take an Uber or Taxify if the wedding is within state limits. Hiring a private . will obviously cost more if the wedding is in another city. We can’t put a specific price on this one because the distance is the determining factor.

 2. Accommodation

Attending a wedding in another city comes with baggage. Although some couples can afford to make accommodation arrangements for guests, some can’t. You can find affordable hotels from the range of 5,000 to 20,000 per night. T.’s an option for expensive five-star hotels though, if you can afford it.

3. Aso-Ebi

Aso-Ebi is in the Nigerian constitution! Lol! Okay, it’s not compulsory, but, if you want to properly represent, you should add it to your budget. The price for aso-ebi depends on the quality of the fabric and/or the bride. It can range from N10,000 to N100,000+. Factor in the cost of making the dress, which could range between N8,000 and N150,000 (we are talking Aunty Toyin vs Deola Sagoe .).

4. Make-up/Gele:

It’s okay to do your own makeup and tie your gele if you are good at it, but if you aren’t, you may need to hire a makeup artist. The cost of a standard facebeat can range from N3,000 to N10,000. Just don’t slay more than the bride sha!

You can’t show up empty handed like you just came for the party jollof. Grab a nicely wrapped gift for the couple, it doesn’t have to cost a fortune. Common wedding gifts include household appliances and utensils and might cost between N5,000 to N10, 000 at most. Unless you want to buy them a car, of course!
