In a shock finding, it turns out that shoving weed into your internal organs may actually NOT be such a good way to treat period pain.
Last week, the internet went wild over Foria pills – marijuana-based painkillers which you, er, insert right at the . of the pain.
You know – up there.
But it turns out that you might actually be better smoking a joint to kill pain – rather than relying on a pretty sketchy route to get cannabinoids into your body.
The pills (legal in some states in the U.S.) include a pretty hefty dose of THC, the ‘active ingredient’ in cannabis.
Speaking to Vice, gynaecologist Dr Jennifer Gunter said, ‘It’s completely untested. There’s nothing in scientific literature to support this dose or the safety of it.
‘When you compound medication for the vagina, which I do quite commonly, certain compounds can only be put in certain products.
‘I have no idea if cannabinoids are even compatible with cocoa butter. Normally you would do a study to test that, but there’s been zero testing with this.’
Foria – the same company behind marijuana filled lube – introduced Foria Relief Suppositories this year.
The capsules are all natural, made of THC oil, CBD, and organic cocoa butter.
Foria claims their capsules won’t disrupt your vagina’s natural pH, don’t have any hidden nasties, and can be easily inserted along with a tampon.
Of course, Marijuana is still illegal in the UK and in most parts of the U.S. So even if you’d like to try Foria, you can’t. Unless you’re hanging out in California and Colarado.
