Ghana has shut down its parliament for at least three weeks over a surge in cases of coronavirus among lawmakers and parliamentary staff.
The speaker of the house, Alban Bagbin, declared that the legislature will be in recess until March 2
This is to disinfect and sanitize the premises.
About 17 members of parliament and 151 supporting staff have tested positive for COVID-19.
“I have, in consultation with leadership, decided that sitting of the House be adjourned for three weeks,” the Speaker said.
So far, Ghana has confirmed a total of 73,003 COVID-19 cases, resulting in 482 deaths and over 65,000 recoveries.
