Why is Jon Snow leaving Channel 4 News?

Snow became the main presenter of Channel 4 News in 1989.

He announced in April that he would be leaving the programme, citing that ‘it is time to move on’.

‘I am excited by the many things I want to accomplish but I have to say I have enjoyed every minute of my time with the programme,’ he said in a statement.

‘It has brought me adventure, as well as sorrow in some of the stories that I have had to report and also joy in reporting others, but, above all, it has brought me community in working with the most fantastic group of people who are bound in intellect, humour and understanding.

‘Together, we have forged a wonderful service. I feel proud to have contributed to Channel 4 News, let alone to have anchored the programme for the last 32 years.

‘I’m looking forward to new adventures and new challenges.’

Earlier this month it was confirmed he’ll be at the helm of new programme set to air on the network titled How To Live To 100.

The show will see Snow venture to communities based in Japan, California and the Greek islands to unearth the reasons the residents ‘live longer and lead less stressful and healthier lives than most people anyw. else on the planet’, an announcement said.

In the series, Snow will venture to communities based in Japan, California and the Greek islands w. he’ll ‘immerse himself in their lives – living, working and eating alongside them’.

‘As an older man myself, I’m intrigued by one of my assignments for next year – it is to visit three communities: one in Greece, another in Japan, and yet another in California,’ Snow enthused.

‘T. is something particularly peculiar about these communities – in that people live to extraordinary ages – often in excess of 100-years-old.

‘We shall be trying to find out what it is about their way of life which I for one could benefit from!’

Channel 4 previously said Snow will now ‘focus on his charities and some of his many passions in life, people’s stories, inequality, Africa, Iran and the arts’.
