Sure, a little banter with bae can be totally normal. But have you ever wondered what kinds of disagreements will eventually put a will eventually put a relationship six-feet under? Here, we share the tiffs that almost always spell bad news for a couple if an understanding can’t be reached.
1. Having Kids
Whether or not to have a baby may seem like a simple conversation to have as you get serious in a relationship. ‘I want kids. Do you want kids?’ But, sometimes it’s not that simple. There are definitely times when people’s decisions about whether or not to have kids (or when to have them) changes, and that can put tremendous strain on the relationship.
Cheating is always a deadly wound to any relationship. You or your significant other may try to make it work because of a) remembering the early foundation of love the two of you shared, b) the fear of starting over, c) financial matters, or d) the kids. However, the truth of the matter is that when one partner has been so deeply hurt, they almost can never go back to their old feelings. Yes, they may be able to forgive for a time, but they never truly forget. The buried secret between the couple is always there to haunt them, and somehow, some way, some day—the relationship will sadly come to a close.
3. Overbearing In-Laws
When one partner starts going off on another partner’s family, it’s never good. It sparks something in the other partner that—even if they agree, and they themselves have said the same thing—[makes them want to come to the] defense for their family member. Sometimes it’s fine initially, but it’s like a bell that can’t be un-rung. And when the one partner makes up with their family member (which they almost always will) it’ll still be in the air that the other partner said all those nasty things.
4. Different Religious Beliefs
Any religious differences that one person can’t accept or compromise on can cause a tear in the relationship.
5. It’s Fine
Any disagreement that ends in, ‘It’s fine,’ is the worst. Oh, it’s so not fine, whether you are rolling your eyes or pretending everything is OK, the inability to express how you feel or what you need is a major predictor for a breakup.
